Dentures and Partials
What are Dentures and Partials?
Dentures and partials are prosthetic options that help to correct missing teeth. When worn, the appliance gives the appearance of a full and beautiful smile. Dentures and partials are made specifically for each individual patient, so you can benefit from a customized piece that’s comfortable and easy to wear. With proper care, your dentures and partials can last for years.
Why do you need Dentures and Partials?
A denture is a full arch of false teeth to go in place of previously existing teeth that are now missing either on the top or bottom jaw. Partials only have several teeth attached to the prosthetic, and is removable, improving the look of the smile when there are still healthy teeth present. Some of the reasons you may need a denture or partial include:
- You are missing an entire arch of teeth
- You are missing many of your teeth
- You want a long-lasting prosthetic option that is durable
- You want an appliance that can be removed
What makes you a good candidate for Dentures and Partials?
Dentures and partials are ideal for people who are missing many or all of their teeth. Because the prosthetic is easy to wear, it can be worn all throughout the day and taken out at night to be cleaned. With proper care, you can expect the denture or partial to last for up to seven years. After this time, it is a good idea to have a new denture or partial made.
What happens during the procedure for Dentures and Partials?
If teeth need to be removed to make room for the denture or partial, this will be done prior to the fitting. Next, impressions will be made and sent off to a lab. The dental lab techs will custom create a prosthetic that is ideal for your mouth. You will then come into the office to have the denture or partial put into place. The prosthetic can and will be filed down as needed for your comfort. You should still come into the office for routine checkups despite wearing a prosthetic.
